Getting Over the Guilt

This past Christmas I bought myself a Chanel Cruise bag.

Before I get into the details, I want to start off by saying this is your sign to stop waiting on other people to notice you, to promote you, to buy (insert something you love) for you. Trust me, there is no greater gift than treating yourself unapologetically, free of guilt with a heart full of appreciation for the wonder that is you. You deserve to treat yourself to whatever you want. It’s taken practice, but I’ve gotten good at getting over the guilt of making a big purchase, and part of that is in the planning. Keep scrolling for 4 tips on how to feel good about treating yourself.

1. Know Yourself

At this point, I know what I love and what I don’t. I don’t love trendy bags, so I’m okay with spending money on quality bags that I’ll have forever. I know the bags I buy will be good quality, long-lasting, and I’m going to love them.

2. Take Inventory

I did a closet clean-out and took inventory of all the bags I have. I was looking for a crossbody evening bag, but all of the going-out bags I had were clutches. If you have several of the same item, or pieces that just don’t feel like you anymore, donating or reselling those gently-used items is a great way to make space (and save up) for new things.

3. Save Up

When making big purchases, I like to make goals for myself. If I want a certain item within the next year, I’ll set aside money each month, that way it won’t feel as drastic of a loss in my bank account once the big day arrives. Doing this enables me to fully enjoy buying something just for me, guilt-free.

4. Purchase in Person

If at all possible, go into the store when making a big purchase. Make it an event, because, well…it is! You deserve this, you’ve worked hard and have earned the right to completely soak up feeling great about yourself and your ability to buy something meaningful just for YOU.

The Details

When I was in Las Vegas, I saw a store associate showing the bag in the hotel Chanel store to a customer and loved it. BUT it was in all white and I knew that wouldn’t be a practical choice for me. When I found out it was available in black, I knew it was exactly what I had been looking for. I absolutely love the quilting and can’t get enough of the dice-inspired Chanel letters on the chain strap. I’m going to have this bag for a long long time and I feel damn good about gifting it to myself! (Click here to see her in all her glory.)

This isn’t the first, and won’t be the last, time I’ve done something to celebrate ME. Last year’s Mother’s Day (which was my first as a mom!), I gifted myself this gorgeous heart necklace from Leo Sierra Collection. I wanted to show myself a little love to celebrate my first year as a mom. I worked with the fantastic team as Leo Sierra and am in love with this necklace that means so much to me.

Creating and maintaining self confidence is one of the most important things we can do as women, mothers, partners, bosses, and everything else we are. If buying yourself something special boosts your confidence, that is nothing to feel guilty about.
