My 5 Favorite Spring Trends

lilliana vazquez - spring 2023 fashion trends

Spring has (finally) sprung – at least in LA – so I’m excited to round up the top trends you’ll need to shop for this season and if you take away one lesson, it should be this: ‘90s nostalgia is still going strong! And this “elder millennial” [insert Iliza Shlesinger clip here] is here for it.

Here are 5 styles to “add to your cart” right now:

Cargo Pants

Since the 2010’s, cargo pants have re-emerged only in conversation as the proverbial butt of Y2K fashion jokes—but jest no more, y’all! Cargo pants are back, baby, and I’m loving the variety of fabrics and cuts from soft cotton to smooth satin, and wide leg to a slimmer silhouette, all boasting the style’s signature side pockets in decidedly “now” color options. I say bring it on for spring ’23 (and I don’t care if it’s already been “broughten”).

Slip Dresses (all lengths)

Few silhouettes say sexy like the classic slip dress. Spring 2023 showcases this new millennium mainstay in lengths from mini to midi, classically cut with trademark spaghetti straps. Bonus: This trend goes easily from day to night with an easy Cinderella shoe change—try platform sandals for casual daywear and strappy heels for a night out.

White Heels (all heights)

Whatever your style, spring’s go-to shoe is a fabulous preamble to a white-hot summer. That’s right, y’all, the white shoe is back in a big way—passé Memorial Day to Labor Day rules be damned—and style-wise, anything goes. I’m loving everything from a pointed closed toe pump, a tall, block-heeled sandal, or that early 2000’s ubiquitous kitten-heeled flip flop. Best of all, this trend coordinates with literally everything.

Cropped Button-downs

You know what they say about all work and no play, y’all, but the cropped button down isn’t asking you to compromise. I’m particularly loving conventional menswear fabrics and patterns for this hot take on a classic. This style is great for work or play, and lends a decidedly chic vibe to your profesh and weekend wardrobes alike.

Monochromatic Looks

I recently covered JLo on my podcast, Becoming an Icon, and that mixed with this season’s Y2K fashion vibes has me channeling fly-girl style with a modern monochromatic twist. Sporting the same hue from head to toe, whether warm-weather neutrals or hot hits of color, is 2023’s de rigueur take on this throwback style, and my favorite fashion combo, y’all: chic and easy.
