The Power of Fashion

Did you catch my co-host Victor Cruz and me talking all things People’s Choice Awards on E! News Post Pop? If so, then you’ve already seen my gorgeous pink suit! I’ve had this stunning Venus Suit Set from Morphine Fashion for I can’t tell you how long…I’ve been saving it for the perfect occasion. But y’all, I was inspired last night by Tracee Ellis Ross’ Fashion Icon acceptance speech about the power of fashion and I knew I couldn’t keep it hanging in my closet any longer.

Tracee talked about the power of clothes and how they transform us and allow us to speak our joy into the world…so instead of waiting for the perfect moment to wear this suit, I MADE my moment! She tells us to “use fashion as an entrance, let your clothes be your superhero cape *insert twirl here* allowing you to be the best you you can be. Activate the clothes through your joy and commitment to the world that you want to see.” She says that clothing has nothing to do with money, “it’s the way you put things together.” And I couldn’t agree more!

As I’ve entered my 40s, I’ve had these moments where I think, ‘Am I too told to wear *fill in the blank*? Can I pull this off?’ But then I look at women like Tracee and Jennifer Lopez and I realize I am never asking myself that ever again, because confidence does not have an age!

So in Tracee’s words: “Suit up and show up, because our action creates our destiny, our joy creates space for our freedom…stay engaged, people, we’ve got work to do!”

Watch her heartwarming, funny, and inspiring speech here.
