4 Easy Ways to Elevate Your Style

One of my goals is to help women find confidence in fashion and style…even though we’re spending lots of time in our living rooms these days. Because I believe that when you look good, you feel good! And if you’re confident in what you’re wearing, you’re going to feel amazing. Today, I’m showing you easy ways to style your clothing based on what you already have in your closet and when shopping for new pieces…so just consider me your style bestie!

Maximize what you already own

Throw out the fashion rules, challenge yourself, and remix pieces in your wardrobe! Add versatility to the outfits you’re wearing by taking pieces that are a little more dressy or special occasion and finding ways to wear them in everyday life...this technique will really elevate your look! One way to embrace this is to layer a turtleneck underneath dress, belt it, and you automatically get a new effect! And remember: Any dress can be transformed into a skirt!

Style hack: take a belt put it around your waist, tuck a sweater into the belt, and drape the sweater. The belt isn’t mean to be seen, but this creates visual interest and looks very cool. This is what I did in the photo above…my flowy skirt is actually a gorgeous dress!

Create cool proportions

Right now, the trend I’m seeing in New York is oversized tops. If you want that boxy, French girl, cool girl style that’s happening right now, I’d go with an oversized sweater or jacket. The trick is to make sure you’re not carrying volume on the top AND bottom…that’s a different style strategy for a different day. I would pair an oversized sweater or puffy jacket with slim and trim bottoms, such as a pair of skinny denims or gorgeous leggings. You can wear this look all season long. It feels modern and on trend, and it’s how I’m seeing women styled right now…it’s just beautiful!

Bring the drama to your Zoom meetings

All the attention is from the waist up while you’re on Zoom calls, so that’s where all your focus should be. Here are three ways to step up your entire look…while still wearing slippers!

  • The easiest way to bring the drama is by wearing a color block sweater. This adds detail without too much distracting print or pattern. A mock turtle neck that elongates the neck and is what I consider to be a work from home essential!

  • It’s no secret I love a bold lip. Even though a beautiful sweater has visual interest, it’s still a total neutral, so add any bold lip you like and it will match and work with the sweater! With color and prints, you have to see how they’ll play against each other. But with grays and neutrals, your bold lip will pop. And blue-red lip shades make your teeth look whiter!

  •  Add a fabulous earring. Any time you can add metal next to gray or pewter it will bring out the elegance of your look. It doesn’t have to be a dangling earring, but make it a statement!

My style tip of the decade

Embrace asymmetry! I like to half-tuck my tops to the side, it plays with the drama and plays up the asymmetry. I do this all the time!
